Our Story

BritainNow.uk was founded by Calpe Press Ltd. to fill a gap in the UK media landscape: a general digital news publication that covers politics, business and culture with equal seriousness, rigour and accessibility. We saw a need for reporting that treats each of these areas as interconnected, not siloed, and that serves readers across Britain with clear, factual journalism free from partisan noise.

Why was BritainNow.uk founded?

Calpe Press Ltd. established BritainNow.uk because too many news outlets treat business and culture as secondary to politics, or cover each in isolation. Readers deserve a publication where Westminster, the markets and the arts are all covered with the same depth and editorial care. BritainNow.uk exists to provide that integrated, trustworthy perspective for a British audience.

The company recognised that many general news sites rely on aggregation or opinion-driven content, leaving a gap for rigorously reported, accessible journalism that explains the connections between policy, commerce and everyday life. BritainNow.uk was designed from the start to be editorially independent, funded through transparent commercial models rather than influenced by any single interest. Our editorial team operates with a clear mandate: report what matters to people across Britain, without favour or sensationalism.

Who is responsible for what we publish?

Editor-in-Chief Jonathan Ellery oversees all editorial policy, corrections, standards, publication decisions, source review and content quality at BritainNow.uk. He leads a dedicated desk structure that ensures every article is properly commissioned, fact-checked and reviewed before publication.

Our newsroom is organised by subject area: Rebecca Haines, Managing Editor, handles daily planning and workflow; Thomas Whitmore covers politics and public affairs from Westminster to local councils; Charlotte Foster reports on business, markets and personal finance; Sophie Marlowe edits culture, lifestyle and features; and Oliver Reeves leads fact-checking and editorial standards. Each desk is named and accountable. For full profiles of every editor and correspondent, visit our team page.

What can you expect from us?

Readers of BritainNow.uk can expect every article to carry a clear byline, transparent source attribution and honest reporting that distinguishes fact from analysis. We do not publish anonymous opinion pieces or undisclosed sponsored content. Our funding model — display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships and content licensing — is disclosed in full on our ownership and funding page. Commercial relationships never determine editorial conclusions, and all sponsored or affiliate material is clearly labelled.

We are committed to factual accuracy and editorial independence. That means every story is checked against primary sources, corrections are published promptly and transparently, and any use of AI or automation tools in production is disclosed and human-reviewed. Our corrections and fact-checking policies are published at /corrections-policy/ and /fact-checking-policy/. You will never encounter fabricated quotes, fake sources or unverified claims. If you spot an error, please let us know via our contact page.

How do we ensure our reporting is independent and accurate?

BritainNow.uk operates under a strict editorial firewall: commercial teams have no influence over news decisions. All sponsored or commercial content is clearly separated from editorial and labelled accordingly. Our fact-checking desk, led by Oliver Reeves, reviews every sensitive story and verifies sources before publication. We also maintain a formal corrections policy and publish a public log of all amendments.

Our editorial philosophy, set by Jonathan Ellery, prioritises transparency in sourcing and methodology. Where we use digital tools for research, formatting or transcription, that is noted in our AI and automation policy. No content is published without human editorial review. We believe that independence and accuracy are earned through consistent practice, not just stated as values.
