Copyright & Takedown Policy

BritainNow.uk respects intellectual property rights and takes copyright compliance seriously. We use only lawfully sourced images and media: licensed stock photography, press agency images, official promotional materials supplied by rights holders, and original photography produced by our own team. Every item is assessed for proper licensing and attribution before publication. If you believe your copyrighted work has been used without authorisation, please contact us immediately at copyright@britainnow.uk.

What types of images and media do we use?

We rely on licensed images from established stock agencies, press images from wire services, official promotional materials provided by rights holders, and original photography taken by our journalists and freelancers. All media is selected for its editorial relevance and cleared for use before publication.

Each image or video is accompanied by a credit line where the source or licence requires it. We do not use user-generated content or third-party social media images without explicit permission or a clear open licence. Our editorial team keeps records of licences and permissions for every piece of media published on BritainNow.uk.

How do we assess rights before using media?

Before any image or media file is published, our editorial team reviews its provenance. We check licensing terms, attribution requirements, usage restrictions, and any applicable model or property releases. This review is part of our standard pre-publication workflow, overseen by Oliver Reeves, Standards & Fact-Checking Lead.

If a source is unclear or a licence appears limited, the item is not used until the rights are confirmed. We also routinely audit our media library to ensure ongoing compliance. This process applies to all content, including editorial photography, illustrations, charts, and video clips.

What you can expect from us

We commit to transparent crediting of all images and media, prompt correction of any attribution errors, and respectful, timely handling of takedown or correction requests. Our aim is to resolve copyright concerns fairly and efficiently, balancing the rights of creators with our journalistic mission.

If you notify us of an issue, we will investigate without delay. Depending on the outcome, we will remove, replace, add a credit, or amend the content as appropriate. We never use copyrighted material as a substitute for original reporting, and we avoid speculative or unverified sourcing. Our full editorial standards are outlined in our Editorial Policy.

How do I submit a takedown or correction request?

Send a detailed request by email to copyright@britainnow.uk. Include your full name and contact information, a description of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed, the exact URL(s) where it appears on BritainNow.uk, and a statement in good faith that the use is not authorised by the rights holder, their agent, or the law.

Please also indicate whether you are the rights holder or an authorised representative, and what outcome you seek – removal, replacement with a properly licensed version, or addition of a credit line. We cannot process anonymous or incomplete requests. For non-copyright issues such as factual inaccuracies, please use our contact page or the general corrections address.

What happens after we receive your request?

Our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Oliver Reeves, reviews each takedown or correction request promptly. He verifies the claim, checks our records of licences and permissions, and consults with the relevant editor – typically Jonathan Ellery, Editor-in-Chief, for policy decisions.

We aim to respond within five business days. If the claim is valid, we will remove the material, replace it with a properly sourced alternative, add or correct a credit, or amend the content. If we believe the use is lawful (for example, fair dealing for news reporting), we will explain our position and offer to discuss a resolution. Continued use after a valid takedown notice is never our practice. Our full terms of use can be found in our Terms of Use, and our approach to funding and independence is detailed in Ownership & Funding.
