Fuzz Townshend is a British drummer, television presenter, classic car restorer, and motoring journalist. He is best known as the drummer for the indie band Pop Will Eat Itself and as the co‑host of the National Geographic and Channel 4 series Car SOS. With a career that stretches across music, automotive restoration, and journalism, Townshend has built a distinctive public profile that attracts curiosity about both his professional achievements and his personal life.
Born John Richard Keith Townshend on 31 July 1964, he acquired the nickname “Fuzz” at age seven because schoolfriends renamed him after his Afro hair. Townshend’s early musical break came in 1991 when the indie band Pop Will Eat Itself recruited him as their live drummer, replacing pre‑programmed beats.
Beyond music, he has worked as a bus mechanic, truck driver, college lecturer, landscape gardener, and bar owner. He later became technical editor of Practical Classics magazine before going freelance and founding Westgate Classics, a classic car restoration business. This combination of musical and mechanical talents eventually led him to television, where he co‑presents Car SOS.
